Croatia grants a temporary stay to digital nomads for up to 18 months. The Ministry of the Interior sets the income test at 2.5 times the average monthly net salary of the previous year, which the page puts at EUR 3,622.50 per month.

Income and funds

Show the income with a bank statement of regular income or six months of payslips. A bank balance also works: EUR 43,470 for a 12-month stay or EUR 65,205 for an 18-month stay.

For each additional family member or life partner, add 10% of the average monthly net salary. Close family members and common-law partners can join; a common-law relationship counts after 3 years in a childless relationship, or sooner if the couple has a child together or marries.

Extension

Apply for an extension no later than 60 days before the stay ends. It is granted for a maximum of 6 months. A new application for another purpose can be made 6 months after expiry.

Costs

  • At a police station, paid after approval: EUR 46.45 for the temporary stay, plus EUR 9.29 administrative fee and EUR 31.85 for the biometric card (EUR 59.73 if accelerated).
  • At a diplomatic mission: EUR 55.74 for the temporary stay, plus EUR 93.00 for a long-term D visa or EUR 41.14 for the biometric card.

How to apply

  1. Apply online, or in person with Form 1a at a police station. If your nationality needs a visa, apply at a Croatian diplomatic mission.
  2. Attach a passport valid three months beyond the stay, health insurance covering Croatia, proof of purpose (an employer statement or company registration), proof of funds, a legalised criminal record certificate (not needed for extensions) and a Croatian address. A temporary address is accepted.
  3. Pay the fee after approval and send the proof of payment to your case worker as a PDF.
  4. Collect the D visa if one is required, register your address within 3 days of entry (Form 16a) and get the biometric residence permit.
