Spain issues a telework visa for people who work remotely for companies outside Spain. For 2026 the consular page sets the income at 200% of the monthly minimum wage, which is EUR 1,221, so EUR 2,442 per month.
Income for family members
Add 75% of the minimum wage (EUR 916 per month) for the first accompanying family member and 25% (EUR 306) for each further one. The spouse or unmarried partner, children and adult children who are financially dependent, and relatives in the ascending line under your care may accompany you.
Validity and staying longer
The visa is valid for up to 1 year, or for the length of the work period if that is shorter. It is not renewed. To stay longer, request an Initial Residence Authorization from UGECE and apply for the foreigner identity card (TIE) at a police station, both 2 months before the visa ends. A telework residence permit for people already legally in Spain can run up to 3 years, and the TIE is renewable while the conditions continue.
Fee
The consular fee depends on nationality and is revised each quarter. For example, from 1 January 2026 it is USD 190 for US citizens, USD 106 for most other nationalities and USD 963 for UK citizens.
How to apply
- Obtain a NIE (foreigner identity number).
- Gather the documents in original and copy, with translations and apostilles where needed.
- Book an appointment at the BLS Spain Visa Application Center. At the Washington consular section, applications are in person by appointment only from 1 September 2026; other consulates publish their own pages.
- Submit the complete application. BLS forwards it to the consular section on the next working day.
- Wait for the decision. The legal period is 10 days from when the consular section receives the file, longer if an interview or extra documents are needed.
- Collect the visa within 1 month after the decision.
